Sci-Fi Fan Locked in Back of Bookshop Had to Call 999

A CUSTOMER had to call police after getting locked in a shop when the owner went out to get a coffee - but was rewarded with vouchers after being trapped for an hour-and-a-half.

The shopper, who did not want to be identified, was absorbed looking through sci-fi books in the back of Paramount Books in Manchester city centre on Saturday and didn't hear the owner leave.

He had been browsing the shelves in a back room of the shop on Shudehill - and it is believed the owner had forgotten he was there.

The man only realised he was locked in after taking his purchases through to the counter to pay - and found the shop deserted.

He began searching the shop for a key or a mobile number for the owner, but unable to find either, had to ring the police.

He also tried to escape through an upstairs fire exit, with police offering to call the fire brigade to help with the rescue. …
