ROBIN van Persie has backed manager Louis van Gaal to get United firing again after his side picked up just one point from their opening two games in the Premier League.

The Dutch striker made his first start of the new era in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland, after missing the opening day defeat to Swansea.

And Van Persie, who was part of Van Gaal's Holland side that finished third at the World Cup, says he will help his team-mates to implement the manager's gameplan.

"I worked with him for two years and he's very clear," he said. "He's clear in what he asks of each player in the team every day. So, where I can, I will help the other players.

"I think that everyone has faith and everyone believes in the staff and players.

"We have great players and it's just a matter of time before the points will start coming in."

Van Persie admitted the Reds were disappointed by their performance at the Stadium of Light after taking an early lead through Juan Mata. …
