MOST of us can sympathise with D Thorp, Fallowfield, in his supposedly innocent request to have his ears syringed.

Once again the authorities have managed to make a mountain out of a molehill. A simple request has become something D Thorp is now wondering why did I bother. Talk about red tape, how they love it these bureaucrats.

Like you D Thorp, I also wear a hearing aid, however, I am very fortunate in that if I have a problem with the hearing aid or wax in the ears I simply phone up the Audio Department at Walkden Gateway - problem solved within a week.

Hopefully in future if I need my ears de-waxing I shall not be referred to my local GP for he or she to confirm that indeed I do need my ears de-waxing. What a waste of time.

No wonder doctors' surgeries are clogged up. Whether they like it or not successive governments with their obsession for a perfect society have driven people with imagined diseases to their local GP. …
