Horton: We Have to Bat Well or We Will Be Relegated

PAUL Horton admits if Lancashire don't bat well, they will be relegated today.

The Red Rose need to score at least 350 in reply to Middlesex's first innings 214 all out to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive.

And although Horton feels Lancashire had a good opening, it all now depends on him and the rest of the batsmen to keep them up.

"We are in a decent position, but if we bat poorly we will be relegated today," said the Red Rose vice captain.

"It is obvious what we need to do now. It is all about us scoring runs and getting a first innings lead.

"We will do what we try and do every game, score 400 and get maximum batting bonus points.

"Yesterday was a very good day for us. To bowl any side out for 214 when you have lost the toss is a good effort.

"We have nothing to lose. We are down near the bottom for a reason - we haven't played well enough in the last 15 games.

"We have one last chance to do something incredible on our home patch and save our Division One status. …
