UNITED have brought in some star players this season but need more of them.

That's the upshot of a supporter survey conducted on our website over the past week.

Angel di Maria has been the outstanding player; 98% of fans have been impressed with his efforts so far.

Ander Herrera and Daley Blind are also included in the top five standouts this season, along with David de Gea and youngster Paddy McNair.

All five are included in the Team of the Season up to this international break, as seen below.

While Reds fans are satisfied with the start to the season - nearly half reckon the campaign has gone as expected - they expect more to come.

From over 1,800 responses, nine out of every ten supporters do not think the team are playing as well as they can.

The same can be said for Louis van Gaal. He scored a perfect ten for his handling of the media but overall fans think there is room for improvement.

Many of the responses admitted that while they think the current crop of players can improve, some extra reinforcements will be necessary.

Nearly seven out of ten people accept the Reds squad is not good enough, and they were very clear on the problem areas.

More than half think central midfield needs strengthening in January, while 92% want another centre-back snapped up in the next transfer window.

Top of the targets is Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, with four in five wanting the World Cup winner signed up.

United showed interest in him this summer and while they decided against a move, their troubles at the back in this campaign may convince Van Gaal to go back in for the player.

Behind Hummels, mid-fielders Kevin Strootman (67%) and Arturo Vidal (37%) proved the next popular targets.

There were also familiar calls for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford.

As well as bringing in talent, supporters are keen to see youth promoted. …
