Murder Hunt as Man, 35, Is Found Shot near School ; Victim's Family 'Absolutely Devastated' by Gun Horror

AMURDER probe is underway after a factory worker was shot dead.

The 35-year-old victim was found collapsed with gunshot injuries near to Manchester Food Traders, on Wood Street, Openshaw. He is believed to have worked at the plant, a frozen food wholesalers which is based in a unit on the street just yards from a primary school.

The man, who hasn't been identified, was blasted twice - once in the stomach and once in the chest, police said.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics but pronounced dead in hospital. Last night, more than a dozen police and forensic specialists were at the scene. Officers could be seen with torches combing roads around the industrial estate for clues. The victim's family has been informed and are said by police to be 'absolutely devastated.' Det Supt John Chadwick said investigations at the scene were likely to continue over the weekend. He added: "This tragic incident is only a few hours old so it is far too early to go into exactly what has happened and why. …
