Sharks Setback as Jones Opts for a New Challenge at Bristol

BRISTOL yesterday confirmed Sale's worst fears this week by announcing the signing of Sharks hooker Marc Jones.

As exclusively revealed by M.E.N. Sport, the 27-year-old has opted to leave the AJ Bell Stadium after almost 10 years at the club for a new challenge in the South West.

Jones (right) has been a key figure at Sale for the best part of a decade and his trademark aggression and prodigious work-rate have endeared him both to Sharks fans as well as director of rugby Steve Diamond, who was anxious to retain one of his most trusted and consistent performers.

But though Sale had made what they termed a 'generous' offer to Jones, big-spending Bristol - who are determined to return to the Premiership next season after a sixyear absence - countered with a lucrative offer that helped sway Jones' mind.

Jones - who has made more than 150 top-flight appearances for Sale - said: "I'm relishing a fresh challenge at Bristol, it's an ambitious club and I'm looking forward to being part of their future. …
