Burke on Track to Be Back from Bad Break

DOUBLE Olympic champion Steven Burke is on track to win his fitness race to compete at next month's UCI World Championships in Paris.

Manchester-trained Burke, 26, broke his collarbone on January 11 during a training camp in Majorca.

There were fears the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 team pursuit fold medallist might miss the Worlds from February 18-22.

However, Lancastrian Burke, world champion in 2012, is optimistic he'll be back in the saddle at the St Quentin Velodrome.

"Things are going better than I thought they would," said the Rio 2016 hopeful, who underwent surgery to repair the damage just two days after crashing.

"The collarbone is now straight and I've hardly any pain in that area so it's back in training on the turbo.

"I'm not allowed on the road yet because it may weaken, so I'm doing plenty of efforts, double days on the turbo and gym sessions as well. …
