VAN THIEF RUNS OVER OWNER ; the Driver Left His Keys in the Ignition as He Paid for Petrol but Was Knocked Down in Garage Forecourt

THIS is the shocking moment a man was knocked down by his own van during a garage forecourt raid.

The victim, 43, stepped into the vehicle's path in a desperate bid to stop a hooded thief from driving off.

Moments earlier, the driver left his keys in the ignition and went to pay for petrol.

While inside the Rochdale garage, a young man ran through the forecourt, jumped into the van and started to drive off.

After knocking down the owner, he fled in the vehicle towards Royton.

Police said that the victim was not badly hurt. Detectives have now issued CCTV of the incident to track down the offender.

He is described as white and wore a grey hooded top with the hood up.

He is in his late teens to early 20s, with a slim build and a gaunt face.

Det Sgt Chris Mannion, from GMP's Rochdale division, said: "This was an opportunistic robbery, the thief saw the keys left in the ignition, ran over to the van and drove. …
