Woman Caught Fleeing to Syria Was 'Grieving the Loss of a Relative'

A WOMAN caught trying to flee to ISIS-controlled Syria was grieving the loss of a relative, it has been reported.

She was among a group of nine from Rochdale who were stopped in Turkey last week close to he border with Syria. Among the party were four children including a baby.

They are due to be flown back to the UK when the adults will be arrested.

According to reports, the woman, who was the oldest member of the party, was grieving the recent loss of a close relative. On Friday, police began a search of four homes - including that of a Rochdale Labour councillor - as part of their enquiry.

Officers went into the home Shakil Ahmed, who represents the Kingsway ward on Rochdale Borough Council. His son Waheed Ahmed, 21, was among the nine held in Turkey.

Police also searched three other addresses - one in Rochdale and two in Heywood. …
