Chris Smelley Joins Hillcrest Staff

TUSCALOOSA | Chris Smelley is back in the game of football. The former University of South Carolina quarterback and Alabama baseball player, has joined the Hillcrest football staff as an assistant coach.

A native of Tuscaloosa, Smelley starred at American Christian Academy, earning All-State honors in baseball and football, before going on to play three seasons for Steve Spurrier with the Gamecocks. He then transfered to Alabama to play baseball for then- head coach Jim Wells.

Hillcrest head coach Adam Winegarden said he's pleased to have Smelley join the staff. Winegarden said Smelley's strong ties to the community and collegiate experience will be an asset to the program.
