Ironmen Register Rare Back-to-Back Wins

SAMANTHA | With 39 seconds left until the end of the game, quarterback Devonta Jenkins scrambled to the end zone for Holt High School to put the finishing touches on the Ironmen's 44-15 victory over Northside High School Rams on Friday night.

The victory earned the Holt program its first back-to-back wins in five years.

Jenkins said being on the winning side of a massive scoring game was special.

"We usually get beat down, but we wanted to step it up and not let up," Jenkins said.

Holt coach Tim Gillespie echoed his player's sentiments.

"To win back-to-back games convincingly with how young our team is shows we're headed in the right direction," Gillespie said.

The Ironmen (2-3) had a rough start as Northside's Zarrian Grant and A.J. Travis combined for 69 rushing yards on a first-quarter scoring drive. Travis ran 53 yards for a touchdown.

"(Northside) took it to us quick, but that really made our players wake up. We answered the challenge and decided to step up and play," Gillespie said. …
