BOYS ROUNDUP: Hillcrest Claims Tourney Title

TUSCALOOSA | Rayshawn Tubbs scored 22 points and earned MVP honors Tuesday night as host Hillcrest beat Pickens County 68-54 in the championship of the Checkers Invitational boys basketball tournament.

James Thomas scored 11 and Joe Armour 10 for the Patriots (6-4).

Pickens County (9-2) was led by Demarko Hall's 16 points. Bobby Bradford added 12 and Lajuan Doss scored 11.

Hillcrest led 34-31 at halftime.

Hillcrest next plays in the Metro Independent Tournament against Vestavia Hills at 3 p.m. Dec. 29.

Holt 66, Central 54

HOLT | In a back-and-forth game, the Holt Ironmen stretched out what was a four-point lead with less than 4 minutes left to beat the Central Falcons at home.

Holt's RaAnthony Sanders led all scorers with 28 points and added 13 rebounds. He was a perfect 12 for 12 from the free-throw line. …
