BOYS ROUNDUP: Hillcrest Knocks off No. 5 Ramsey

HOMEWOOD | Hillcrest knocked off Ramsey -- ranked No. 5 in AHSAA Class 5A -- Friday in the semifinals of the Homewood Metro Independent boys basketball tournament.

The Patriots made 16 of 18 free throws in the second half to power the 55-49 win. Hillcrest (8-4) plays for the tournament championship today at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of Friday's late night matchup between host Homewood and Pelham.

Perrin Buford had a strong all-around game for Hillcrest in the win, scoring 24 points, blocking seven Ramsey shots and pulling down nine rebounds. He was the only Patriot to reach double figures as the next highest scorer was Rayshawn Tubbs with nine points.

Ramsey (13-4) had the game's high scorer in Jamel Waters who ended with 32 points. Justin Etheridge scored 12 points.

BUTLER | Billy Ingram scored 23 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and made seven steals to lead Sumter Central's win.

Other stats leaders included Dartayvis Hogan with 18 points and nine assists, Roderick Harris with 14 points, Michael Hutchings with 10 rebounds, and Julius Maye with nine points and seven assists. …
