Tuscaloosa Academy Girls Lose on Buzzer Beater

MONTGOMERY | Macon-East Montgomery senior Haley Floyd admits she is not much of a 3-point shooter.

But in the eyes of Tuscaloosa Academy, she might as well be the best in the state.

Floyd hit a desperation 3-pointer as time expired Friday, giving Macon-East a 37-35 victory over the Tuscaloosa Academy Lady Knights in the AISA Class AAA Elite 8 at Huntingdon College.

"I'd never done that before (made a winning shot), not even in the back yard," Floyd said. "I think I've made less than 10 3s all year. I don't shoot much so it was a surprise to even get the chance."

"It was a tough way to end it and our girls are disappointed but, for the most part, we had an opportunity at the end and that's all you can ask," TA coach Jacob Childers said. "You can only do so much in a situation like that. I felt like we did as much as we could."

Krissy Pruitt had done all she could, scoring all but two of TA's points in the game but she was not given the chance to break the tie in the final seconds.

Pruitt was a perfect 14-of-14 at the line in the game but it was Claire Harrison who made 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds to play. …
