Roundup: Central Rolls into Class 5A Regionals

FAIRFIELD | Javaris Richards scored 30 points, Demetrius Houston had 21 rebounds and 13 points and Terrance Rice had 11 points and 12 assists in Central's 58-44 win in the AHSAA Class 5A Central Sub- Regional at Fairfield.

Three Fairfield players scored in double figures, including Nick Congmire with 16, Derrick McCoy with 11 and Brandon Peoples with 10.

Central (21-10) advances to the Central Regional, hosted in Montgomery by Alabama State, where it will play Talladega on Wednesday.

Class 4A

Sumter Central 73, Oak Grove 43

YORK | Billy Ingram's 21 points and 12 rebounds led Sumter Central High's Central Sub-Regional win.

Stats leaders for the Jaguars also included Dartayvis Hogan with 15 points, Jamarrius Childers with eight points and 10 rebounds, and Jykwentin Johnson with six rebounds, seven blocks and four steals.

Sumter Central (14-11) advances to the Central Regional in Montgomery where it will play on Thursday.

Class 3A

Hale County 66, Aliceville 61, OT

MOUNDVILLE | It took an extra period to do it, but Hale County advanced with its overtime win against Aliceville.

Aliceville's Darius Little, who ended the game with 22 points, hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer at the end of regulation to tie the score at 54-54 and send it into overtime.

In overtime, it was Hale County's Kerry Lewis providing the heroics when he converted a three-point play--making a layup and a free throw--to put Hale County ahead for the win. Lewis ended the game with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Rodriquez Arnold joined him in double figures with 13 points.

Hale County (16-12) will play in the Central Regional in Montgomery on Thursday.

Greensboro 70, Sipsey Valley 41

GREENSBORO | The Greensboro Raiders defeated The Sipsey Valley Bears at home in the Central Sub-Regional.

The Raiders were led by Jimmy Taylor and Willie Parker, who each scored 13 points, and Takendrick Britford, who scored 12.

The Bears (16-12)were led by Rasheed Worrell's double-double, who recorded 11 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Garret Lewis had nine points and three steals and Palmer Cabaniss added nine points and five assists for Sipsey Valley as well.

Greensboro (24-6) will advance to the Central Regionals at Alabama State in Montgomery. …
