R.A. Hubbard Girls Take Down Berry

HANCEVILLE | The Berry Lady Wildcats seized the momentum in Tuesday's Class 1A Northwest Regional game, but it was too little, too early.

Berry lost the lead by the end of the first quarter and never got it back. Five players scored in double figures as defending state champion R.A. Hubbard advanced with a 73-56 victory.

R.A. Hubbard got 15 points and 11 rebounds from Alexis Acosta. Ashlen McCoy and Alexandria Gholston scored 14 points each.

Oresha Sherrod scored 11 of her 12 points in the second quarter as the Lady Chiefs (24-2) built their lead to 43-31. Zena Harris added 11 points.

"One of the biggest things we try to do is finish well at the rim," R.A. Hubbard coach Nicholas Vinson said. "I thought we did a good job of pushing the pace of the game in the second and third quarters."

Junior guard Emma Herren nailed three 3-pointers to spark Berry to a 13-2 lead. Vinson called time, and his team responded with an 8- 0 run.

"We wanted to put a little more pressure on (Herren)," Vinson said. …
