Lady Eagles out at AISA Tournament

MONTGOMERY | Sumter Academy's season came to a merciful end on Friday.

The Lady Eagles fell in two games in the Alabama Independent School Association Class A tournament, falling 18-0 to Ashford Academy and 7-2 to Crenshaw Christian at Lagoon Park.

The Eagles managed just two wins for the season (2-12). It was so bad that head coach Tammy Cole had little to say following the second loss on Friday.

"Not much I can add," she said.

The Eagles struggled in every facet during the season, according to assistant coaches Brandie Roe and Holly Bedwell.

"We had a bunch of young kids step up and a lot became leaders," Bedwell said. "There aren't a lot of kids there to really build a strong youth league so we are having to catch up."

With just three seniors on the team, the Eagles toiled at the plate and on the mound where Cole was forced to use several underclassmen, including a sixth grader. …
