ACA Rally Comes Up Short in 1-Run Loss to Lexington

MONTGOMERY | When the bottom of the seventh inning started on Saturday, coach Billy White told his American Christian Academy softball players to keep fighting.

ACA rallied for three runs, but Lexington held on for an 8-7 victory to eliminate the Lady Patriots from the AHSAA Class 2A tournament.

White's first ACA team went 1-2 at Lagoon Park and finished the season at 29-18-1.

Lexington led 8-4 in the bottom of the seventh. Rachel Skelton led off with a single, and Kate Coleman reached an error. The runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Hannah Burr, the lone senior, grounded out to drive in a run. Coleman scored when Meghan Osment grounded out.

Kaitlin Hamner kept the inning going with a double and scored on Danielle Hamner's double. Lauren Mullinex launched a drive to center field, but the ball was caught for the final out.

"I just said we have to keep fighting, battle back one pitch at a time, take a deep breath and let's just do what we do, basically," White said.

Lexington scored five runs in the first inning, two in the fourth and one in the sixth. …
