Greensboro Tops Hale County in Defensive Battle

MOUNDVILLE | The Greensboro Raiders were able to overcome crippling penalties and mistakes on both sides of the ball to beat the Hale County Wildcats, 12-0, on Friday night.

Both offenses struggled heavily, with neither able to establish a running game or make significant yardage in the passing game. The only first-half scoring opportunity came in the first quarter, with Greensboro senior running back Kiemondre Turner running for a 25- yard touchdown.

A holding call negated the touchdown, however, and neither team threatened to score again in the first half, with Greensboro mustering 106 total yards and Hale County managing only 93.

The first score came in the fourth quarter. With roughly eight minutes left to play, Greensboro senior quarterback Quante Brown doubled his team's second-half yardage with a 40-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Tyrez McCain. Up to that play, the Raiders had only managed 40 yards in the second half, and had only crossed midfield once. …
