Big 3-Pointers Key TCHS Girls Win

NORTHPORT | After a back-and-forth battle for the entire first half in which neither team led by more than six points, the Tuscaloosa County High School girls basketball team had a minor deviation from the game plan propel them to a victory Thursday night in high school action.

Two key 3-point shots in the third quarter from Katlyn Madison and Shakeria Thomas helped Tuscaloosa County expand on a 28-26 halftime lead to beat the John Carroll Catholic Lady Cavaliers 64- 55.

Thomas scored five of her 11 points in the pivotal third quarter.

Madison joined Thomas in double-digits with 10 points of her own.

"We hit a few threes to stretch the lead so we could slow the game down enough to win," Tuscaloosa County coach Jacob Haas said. "We didn't have to do too much in the fourth quarter to win."

Also in the third quarter, Katie Krout scored the first six points of the half. Krout was the focal point of the offense for Tuscaloosa County in the first half before the 3-pointers from Madison and Thomas. …
