Paul W. Bryant's Morgan to Play Soccer T Judson

COTTONDALE | Katie Morgan missed out on a season of soccer during her high school career, but that didn't stop her from becoming a college prospect.

Morgan, a senior at Paul W. Bryant High School, recently signed to play for Judson College in Marion.

Morgan is a midfielder and forward for the Lady Stampede, which hosts Moody at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs. Bryant defeated Center Point 5-3 in the first round.

"It means a lot to me," Morgan said. "It makes me feel like I'm going forward in my life. It was a very big milestone, especially for my family because nobody has signed for athletics in my family."

Morgan spent her freshman and sophomore years at Bryant. As a junior, she attended Clarke County High School in Grove Hill, which did not have a girls soccer team.

"I was 14 when I started playing soccer," Morgan said. "I didn't start thinking that I'd be able to make it to the college level until my sophomore year. I actually started getting better at it.

"I like getting to run around and the contact part of it, but I also drove myself to it and pushed myself beyond my limits. I like that, being able to push myself beyond what I knew I could do."

Morgan said the "atmosphere" was one of the reasons she chose Judson.

"It's a great college," she said. "It's a good, Christian environment. There are great people there. I get along with everybody very well. …
