Maplesville Advances to Semifinals after Blanking Linden 41-0

MAPLESVILLE | Two years after falling to Linden in the playoffs, Maplesville got revenge in a big way Friday night.

The Red Devlis cruised to a 41-0 shutout of the Patriots in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A AHSAA playoffs on the backs of quarterback Colby Chambers and a stout defense.

Chambers rushed for 65 yards and three touchdowns and added 104 yards passing and another score. The Red Devils held the Patriots to 62 yards of total offense, including just 13 in a rainy second half.

"We try to say we're fast and physical," Maplesville coach Brent Hubbert said. "We hope every time out that people see that we're fast and physical. That's our goal."

Chambers scored on runs of 2, 8 and 11 yards. He threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Gregory Girlie that capped an 18-point second quarter after a scoreless first.

"It felt good to get (Linden) in our place this time and get a little revenge," Chambers said. "Can't compliment the defense enough. They've played great all season. …
