PREP ROUNDUP: Tuscaloosa Academy Softball Team Earns No. 1 Seed for State Tourney

SELMA | In Tuscaloosa Academy's second game on Thursday, the Knights pulled off an 8-6 win in 10 innings over Morgan Academy on Thursday in high school softball action.

The win gave Tuscaloosa Academy the No. 1 seed for Region 2 in the AISA state tournament.

Shelby Curry (11-3) earned the win with three strikeouts.

The 10th inning started with an Abby Buford double. Three straight singles by Rachael Fincher, Gillie Jacobi and Kaci Cochran pushed the Knights past the deadlock.

Buford went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Fincher went 3-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs. Jacobi was 2-for- 6 and Cochran went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

The Knights defeated Monroe Academy in the first game, 7-4.

Curry earned the win, striking out eight batters.

Carlie Cochran led the Knights with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Kaci Cochran batted 1-for-4 with three runs scored. Buford hit 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Jacobi hit 1-for-4 with a double.

Tuscaloosa Academy (22-10) plays in the AISA state tourney next Friday in Montgomery.

TCHS 10, Northridge 0

NORTHPORT | Aryan Williams got the win from mound and led Tuscaloosa County at the plate.

Williams (6-5) pitched six innings, giving up three hits and no walks with one strikeout.

At the plate, Williams went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a two-run double.

Briana Chappell was 1-for-3 with a two-run double, and Hannah Zark was 1-for-1 with a single.

Savannah Buck took the loss for Northridge (26-16).

Montana Taylor, Kerry Irvin and Kersey Hunt had one hit each for the Jaguars.

TCHS (19-17) plays Lawrence County at 5:30 today in tournament play at Hoover.

Marengo Academy 15, Sumter Academy 0

SELMA | Marengo Academy's comfortable win over Sumter Academy propelled Marengo Academy into the AISA Region 2 championship game.

Andrea Edmonds was the winning pitcher for Marengo Academy, pitching all three innings and striking out one batter. She also hit 1-for-1 with a two-run homer.

Anna Michael Crocker batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Marengo Academy. Macey Petrey hit a double and a triple and had one RBI. Payton Stokes contributed a solo home run.

Kerri Giles took the loss for Sumter Academy. Karli McDaniel and Mary Harmon Patrenos both had base hits. …
