Northridge Shuts out Selma to Head into the Postseason

Northridge High School's 32-0 shutout win over Selma was the hat trick of victories Friday night.

The Jaguars won on homecoming.

They won on Senior Night.

And, most importantly, they won to clinch a spot in the Class 6A playoffs.

Heading into Friday night's game, Northridge (5-4, 3-3) and Selma (5-4, 2-4) were tied for fourth place in the Region 4 standings.

It was a must-win situation that ended up in the Jaguars' favor, sending them to the postseason for the first time since 2011.

"It's a pretty special night when you win for three reasons," Northridge coach Mike Smith said. "We had Senior Night, homecoming and a playoff spot on the line. A lot of things were on the line, and that is why we wanted to make it fun and not let the pressure build up. I'm really proud of them. I've got a son that is a senior on this football team, and you can say what you want to, but there is a lot of teams that would trade places with us going into the playoffs right now. …
