Alabama Basketball Blows Lead, Game to No. 11 Wichita State

There were nearly six minutes to go when Shannon Hale's three- pointer for Alabama quieted the Koch Arena crowd of more than 10,000 and moved the Crimson Tide close to a signature win.

Alabama led by 11 at the time, but that proved to be the Tide's last basket and the last time Koch Arena was quiet.

No. 11 Wichita State energized its home crowd and overwhelmed Alabama with a full-court press that held Alabama to a single free throw over the final 5:53. WSU scored 13 of the final 14 points to win 53-52.

Hale's three-pointer produced Alabama's biggest lead, 51-40, with 5:54 to go. It appeared the Tide was on its way to snapping WSU's 22- game home winning streak and 30-game streak over non-conference opponents at Koch Arena. But WSU (8-1) scored the next 11 points to tie it 51-51 with 1:23 to play.

The score remained tied until Alabama's leading scorer, Levi Randolph, made 1 of 2 free throws with 33 seconds to put Alabama back ahead, 52-51.

Randolph scored 13 and was held below his average of 17. …
