Shelton State Community College, Tuscaloosa City Schools Will Partner

The Tuscaloosa City Board of Education on Tuesday approved a partnership between the city schools and Shelton State Community College that will allow both institutions to share resources and class offerings.

Superintendent Paul McKendrick said the partnership will benefit both Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy students as well as Shelton State students.

"Shelton has been an untapped resource for us," McKendrick said. "We really are looking at trying to take advantage of the resources that they have. We want to do it in a formal way so that there is that commitment so it will always be on our minds and our focus that we are committed in trying to provide resources and opportunities for the community, especially for our children."

The partnership involves both groups being able to use facilities at Shelton State and TCTA, dual enrollment course and dual credit courses being offered, community education opportunities, workforce training, developing education opportunities including unique career pathways and communicating opportunities that the partnership creates for parents, students and the community. …
