Lawsuit Filed in Pit Bull Mauling of 9-Year-Old Boy

A young boy mauled by a pit bull in Tuscaloosa County earlier this month faces a lifetime of reconstructive surgery, according to the Tuscaloosa attorney who filed a negligence lawsuit on the family's behalf on Tuesday.

Titus Wilkerson, 9, is still hospitalized at Children's of Alabama hospital in Birmingham, where he is being treated for severe injuries sustained in the April 1 attack.

Attorney Paul Patterson filed a civil lawsuit against the dog's owners in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Patterson claims that next-door neighbors Dollie Scott and her grandson, Christopher Guyton, were negligent by not restricting the dog to their property on Garden Hill Drive, just off Alabama Highway 69 South near Hillcrest High School.

"I have handled many dog bite cases over the years and can unequivocally say I have never witnessed injuries this horrific to a child," Patterson said. "Months ago, my client's mother warned the owners of the dog that the dog was vicious. …
