Former Sealy Company President Steve R. Kennedy Dies

Steve R. Kennedy, the president emeritus of Sealy Management Co., one of the largest apartment management companies in Alabama, died Sunday at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Kennedy was 64. He worked at Sealy for more than 40 years.

"Steve was one of Tuscaloosa's finest citizens and business leaders," said Steven Rumsey, president of Rumsey Environmental and Rumsey Properties, in a news release from Sealy Management. "He could always be counted on to do the right thing, show solid leadership and look out for what was best for Tuscaloosa. This is a sad day for anyone who knew him."

Kennedy graduated from the University of Alabama in 1973. When he began working at Sealy as a property manager, the company had 325 apartment homes in Tuscaloosa. When he retired as president in 2014, Sealy managed more than 10,000 apartments in four states.

Kennedy was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Five Points Baptist Church. He served on the boards of Campus Life Ministries and Perry Neal Ministries for more than 30 years. …
