The Harrisburg City Islanders defeated the Riverhounds, 3-1, Wednesday night in United Soccer League action at Highmark Stadium in Station Square. The City Islanders (4-6-2) prevented the Riverhounds (1-8-4) from winning their second in a row.

GOLF

Sam Burns of Shreveport, La., and Michael Cromie of Cary, N.C. each shot 5-under 65s for the first-round lead at the Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown. Nathan Smith of Pittsburgh was in a tie for ninth after a 68.

AUTO RACING

Sebastien Bourdais was fined $10,000 and placed on probation for the rest of the season for unsafe driving at IndyCar race Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. Bourdais was penalized after saying he thought he had positioned himself to prevent Justin Wilson from passing him on lap 121. When Wilson tried to make the move, the two cars crashed.

PRO BASKETBALL

Erlana Larkins scored 17 points and Natasha Howard and Shavonte Zellous each added 13 to help the host Indiana Fever beat the Seattle Storm, 76-68, in WNBA action. The Fever overcame a nine- point, second-quarter deficit, taking the lead at 63-61 on Marissa Coleman's 3-pointer from the left corner with four minutes to play. Coleman finished with 12 points.

* The Los Angeles Sparks signed free-agent guard Samantha Prahalis of Ohio State. She played the past two seasons with Phoenix and New York.

TENNIS

Andy Murray got a win in his first match since adding Amelie Mauresmo as his new coach, beating Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu, 6- 4, 6-4, in the second round of the Queen's Club grass-court tournament in London, a warm-up event for Wimbledon. Also, Lleyton Hewitt remains one victory short of Roger Federer's record of 122 match wins on grass after being beaten, 6-3, 6-4, by Feliciano Lopez.

* German wild-card Peter Gojowczyk knocked out third-seeded Milos Raonic, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany. …
