Lawyer found dead in Monongahela River

River Rescue found a local injury lawyer dead in the Monongahela River at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, a spokesman at the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said.

Foul play is not suspected in the death of Martin Lazzaro, 54, of McCandless, the spokesman said.

His body was located near the Monongahela's seven-mile marker, which is 1.3 miles upriver from the Liberty Bridge, between Glen Hazel and West Homestead, according to the medical examiner's office.

The 6.3 mile marker is at Sandcastle and the 7.4 marker is at the Homestead Grays Bridge, River Rescue said.

Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said she did not expect to have additional information on Mr. Lazzaro's death until this morning. The medical examiner's office had not been notified of funeral arrangements as of Thursday night.

Mr. Lazzaro was a member of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Allegheny County Bar Association, the website states.


Woman's body found at waste disposal site

An unidentified woman's body was discovered Wednesday in a Mercer County waste disposal site, state police said.

Workers at Tri-County Industries, Inc., in Pine found the 16-to- 25 year old woman's body at the facility around 3 p.m., state police in Mercer said.

Her cause of death is pending an autopsy, which is scheduled to be performed today in Erie, state police said.


Woodland Hills board fails to pass budget

A budget that would have eliminated 13 teaching positions in the Woodland Hills School District failed to pass with a vote of 2-5-1 at a special meeting Wednesday night.

Board president Robert Tomasic and board members Colleen Filiak, Selena Johnson, Marilyn Messina and Tara Reis voted against the budget, while board member Ava Johnson abstained.

The budget proposed no tax increase, keeping the millage rate at 22. …
