Country Artist to Hold Benefit Concert for Cousin

Article excerpt

If you are rising country artist Justin Fabus and your 8-year- old cousin has an inoperable brain tumor, there's just one thing to do: a benefit concert.

Mr. Fabus, 27, of Scott said he and the members of The Justin Fabus Band were devastated to hear the news that Joey Fabus, 8, of Bethel Park was diagnosed in May with an inoperable tumor located on his brain stem.

Mr. Fabus said he feels fortunate that his band has recently received notoriety and has the opportunity to use that momentum for Joey's sake. The band's recent single, "Kiss of a Gypsy" is receiving air time on country radio stations and there is wide following in the greater Pittsburgh area.

He's hoping that will bring people out to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, on Fort Couch Road, for the event at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $10, available at the door, and all of the proceeds from the raffles will go directly to the family to help cover needs and medical costs. The concert is for ages 18 and older.

Opening for band is Jayna Lininger, a country singer from Bethel Park who is is a friend of the family.

"The night is about raising funds for the family," Mr. Fabus said. "All have donated their time, the Crowne Plaza donated the ballroom and nearly 100 gifts have been donated to raffle."

"My goal for the evening is to make people forget about the pain and heartache for a few hours," Mr. Fabus said.

Cindy Fabus, Joey's mom, said he is looking forward to the concert. "Other than getting a little nauseous and tired, he's in pretty good spirits," she said.

Joey's mom and his father, David Fabus, said the tumor has caused Joey to suffer from double vision.

"He knows he's getting treatment for his double vision and he knows he lost hair because of it," his mom said.

Joey's radiation treatments, completed now, began immediately after his May 15 diagnosis as an effort to shrink the tumor. …
