* Cubs 4, Brewers 2: Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo hit back-to- back home runs as Chicago roughed up Kyle Lohse and visiting Milwaukee. Starlin Castro, Rizzo and Baez, the nucleus of Theo Epstein's rebuilding effort, drove in all four runs against the Brewers. Castro and Chris Coghlan contributed three hits each. * Cardinals 5, Marlins 2: Justin Masterson (2-1) pitched seven scoreless innings in his best outing since joining St. Louis, and the Cardinals averted a series sweep with a win in Miami. Masterson, acquired in a trade July 30 with Cleveland, allowed three hits -- all singles -- and no walks and threw only 91 pitches before departing for a pinch-hitter.

* Braves 3, Dodgers 2: Ervin Santana won his sixth start in a row at Turner Field, Justin Upton drove in the go-ahead run as Atlanta beat Los Angeles. Andrelton Simmons returned to the lineup after missing six games with a sprained ankle and had two RBIs for the Braves.

* Nationals 3, Mets 2: Asdrubal Cabrera hit his first home run for Washington and tumbled over a retaining wall to make a terrific catch, leading the Nationals to their 10th consecutive victory at Citi Field in New York.

* Padres 5, Rockies 3: Rymer Liriano's first big-league homer was a two-run shot in the fourth and Abraham Almonte also went deep to help San Diego beat visiting Colorado to tie its season high with its fifth win in a row. Jedd Gyorko tied his career high with four hits for the Padres. …
