For each of the past 30-plus years, Nate Thimons has found himself on the baseball diamond.

Later this season, three organizations will honor him for his play between the foul lines.

Thimons will be inducted into the Bethel Park High School, Slippery Rock University and National Semi-Pro Baseball halls of fame later in 2014.

"There's not a more deserving individual than Nate," said St. Johns-Lefty's coach Tom McCarthy.

Thimons, who was born in Natrona Heights before moving to Bethel Park at the age of 3, found out first about his induction into the National Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in January.

Thimons began playing with St. Johns when one of his best friends, Greg Stokes, asked Thimons to join him and play a game with the Saints. He has been on St. Johns ever since.

He has helped the team to the NABF championship game three times, with St. Johns-Lefty's finally breaking through and winning the national title last year. Thimons had a bases-clearing double in the first inning of the championship game to get the Saints off to a nice lead.

"He typifies our success," McCarthy said. "He's very determined and dedicated. If he's not doing something with his family, he's at every game. We have that close-knit core group, and he's one everything rallies around. If you call him, he'll be there in a minute. He'll never turn his back on you. He typifies the best of the best."

Thimons will be one of 15 individuals from the Greater Pittsburgh Federation League to be in this Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted in November. Three of the inductees will be longtime Saints' teammates of Thimons -- Jim Jaskowski, Rick Krist and Rick Satcho. …
