Homewood Man Charged in Slaying Suspect Gives Up, Tells Authorities He Was Threatened

A Homewood man who surrendered Thursday on charges that he killed his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend told police the victim threatened him, according to court documents.

Herbert Hart IV, 25, is accused of killing Robert Wilson, 35, of East Liberty, on the front porch of the Hale Street home Mr. Hart shares with his girlfriend.

Mr. Hart, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered about noon at the bureau's North Side headquarters.

Witnesses told Pittsburgh police they saw Mr. Wilson on the front porch of the duplex Oct. 11 as he asked to see his daughter, at times with his hands in the air.

A witness, who saw part of the incident unfold from a nearby house, told police that Mr. Hart told Mr. Wilson that he cares for the girl as he held a silver object that looked like a baseball bat, according to the complaint. The witness reported hearing a "pop" and saw Mr. Wilson fall, police wrote.
