The North Allegheny girls volleyball boosters have decided to change the date of their annual banquet.

"We had our banquet scheduled for next Friday," said North Allegheny coach Heidi Miller, after the No. 8-seeded Tigers pulled a second consecutive upset to earn a return trip to the WPIAL Class AAA title match. "We decided to change the date after we beat [top seed] Shaler on Tuesday."

North Allegheny earned a chance for a repeat with a 25-23, 25- 18, 25-22 sweep of No. 4 Mt. Lebanon in a semifinal Thursday at Baldwin. The Tigers were led by Notre Dame recruit Meg Morningstar, who recorded 10 kills and six blocks. Mt. Lebanon's Alexa Pavlick led all hitters with 16 kills.

North Allegheny will face No. 2 Baldwin at 6 p.m. Saturday in the championship at Baldwin.

Baldwin earned its first title berth since 2003 with a hard- fought 3-2 win against No. 3 Seneca Valley. Baldwin rallied from a 2- 1 deficit with wins of 26-24 and 15-9 in the final two sets. Maddie Sgattoni led the Fighting Highlanders with 22 kills.

In Class AA, a new champion will be crowned, as No. 4 Ford City upset defending champion and No. 1 seed Freeport, 3-1, in the semifinals. Freeport opened the match with a 25-21 victory, but Ford City rallied to win the next three, 27-25, 25-22, and 25-18. …
