The Kelly Strayhorn Theater will open its sixth annual "My People: A Film Series in Color" with a "My People Social" at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Alloy Studios.

The series is designed to highlight the lives and experiencs of the LGBTQIA people of color with films, discussions and performances on Tuesdays in November. "My People" was inspired by Billy Strayhorn's life as an openly gay black man at a time when society was far less accepting of such individuals.

All activities will be held at the Alloy Studios at 5530 Penn Ave., East Liberty, and begin at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. with complimentary wine and refreshments available, and conversations will be held after the screenings.

The Nov. 4 event will include a preview of the films and performances along with an opportunity to learn about resources and organizations available in Pittsburgh.
