Rmu Hires Alum as New Assistant College Lacrosse

Rob Marasti isn't the type of person to walk away from a task before it is completed.

So, it might have seemed strange to some that he would step away as the Pine-Richland boys lacrosse coach after a season that saw the Rams advance to the WPIAL Class AAA tournament.

But when Robert Morris University men's lacrosse coach Drew McMinn asked Marasti to join his staff this past September, he didn't hesitate to leave Pine-Richland after just one season as the Rams' coach and rejoin a program where he had played from 2008 to '11 playing both attack and defense while earning a degree in education. He matriculated to Robert Morris after playing at Mt. Lebanon High School.

"Robert Morris is my alma mater," he said. "Coach McMinn was the defensive coordinator when I played there and is now the head coach there. It's an opportunity to coach under him and get experience at the college level, go back to my alma mater and to give back what they gave to me is pretty awesome. I'm really excited about the opportunity."

Before McMinn, who is also a Mt. Lebanon graduate, advised Marasti about the opening on his staff, this 26-year-old current North Side resident had every intention of returning to Pine- Richland for the 2015 season.

"All my thoughts were leaning toward going back to Pine- Richland," he said. "But I had some communication with Drew over the summer with regard to recruiting and to get some kids onto the college level.

"As the summer unfolded, he ended up having an opening on the staff. As we continued talking, he asked if coaching [at Robert Morris] was something I was interested in. The conversations continued, and I knew [coaching at Robert Morris] was a great fit for my coaching philosophy."

While accepting his new job was an easy decision, Marasti had to break the news to the Rams.
