Sto-Rox Hall of Fame to Honor Nine Alumni, Team and Others

The fourth annual Sto-Rox Athletic Hall of Fame banquet will take place on Feb. 28 at the Kennedy Township Fire Hall at 6 p.m.

The Sto-Rox Athletic Hall of Fame began eight years ago at the urging of former athletic director Mike Colligan. While the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies were initially part of the high school's graduation ceremonies, a banquet to raise money for student-athlete scholarships was implemented by then-Vikings athletic director and current Hall chairman Bill Palermo in 2012.

This years inductees are:

* Amy "Cookie" Dorsey -- A former honor roll student who excelled in both basketball and softball. She played on the Vikings' first basketball section championship team and played on four softball teams that won section titles and two that won WPIAL titles.

* Scott Heinauer -- Earned six letters in football and track while also making the honor roll. Was an all-conference tackle before becoming All-PAC at Thiel College in 1982. Has coached the Vikings' female basketball team, been a successful football coach and athletic director at Mars Area, and was named the 2014 State Athletic Director of the Year.

* Tom Behr -- A letter winner in football and track, Behr was named all-conference twice and made the honor roll. His 1987 Vikings team won the WPIAL title. He later starred at Washington and Jefferson.

* Mike Fitzpatrick -- Won three letters in baseball and basketball and was a National Honor Society member. Won MVP awards on both the baseball and basketball teams and was part of the 1978 baseball section champs before playing at Pitt, where he was the Panthers' team captain and top hitter in 1980.

* Kim Shazer -- A four-year starter on the softball team, this honor roll student was part of a state championship team and was named all-section three times. She is the Vikings' all-time leader in runs and stolen bases while ranking in the top 10 in batting average and hits.

* Barry Savatt -- Earned seven letters in baseball, basketball and football. …
