High school musicals

Science bowl finalists

Canonsburg ? Four local high school teams have qualified for the regional championship rounds of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Science Bowl.

The finalist teams are from Canon-McMillan, Pittsburgh Allderdice, North Allegheny Intermediate High School and North Allegheny Senior High School.

The regional championship will be held Wednesday at the U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory in South Park. The winning team in the regional championship will receive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the department's National Science Bowl April 30-May 4.

All four finalist schools will receive funds for their school science programs ranging from $500 to $1,250 as well as local trips and other prizes.

Runner-up teams were Bethel Park, Greensburg Central Catholic and two teams from Mt. Lebanon.

Eight teams received civility awards for sportsmanship for their respective divisions: Baldwin-Whitehall, Bethel Park, East Allegheny, North Hills, Norwin, Plum, South Fayette and Thomas Jefferson.

Trolley museum Volunteers

Chartiers ? The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum will hold two open houses to provide information for those who are interested in volunteering at the museum.

The sessions will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon March 7 and will include tours and light refreshments.

Volunteers are needed in these areas: marketing, museum store, guided tours, archives, maintenance and restoration, mobile equipment, buildings and grounds, special events and trolley operations. About 170 people contributed over 30,000 volunteer hours in 2014.
