Registration deadline for street fair to benefit NHCO

McCandless - The registration deadline has been extended to next Friday for tickets to an April 30 neighborhood street fair that will offer foods, entertainment and activities to benefit North Hills Community Outreach.

Food at the event, which will be held at The Chadwick, 10545 Perry Highway, will include pulled pork, a taco bar, Mediterranean chicken kabobs, salads, franks, mini burgers and mini desserts. The entertainment will be provided by the Turbosonics, Red House jazz trio, Maddie Arnold, local singers Jared Griffin and Andrew Doerfler and a caricature artist.

Fire companies merge to improve services

Butler County - The Harmony and Zelienople fire companies are consolidating to improve services and reduce costs. The department will be called Harmony Fire District Station 22 and serve Harmony, Jackson, Lancaster and Zelienople.

The department will operate more efficiently with the consolidation of apparatus and buildings, according to a news release from the Governor's Center for Local Government Services, which offered its technical assistance to the new company. The older equipment will be sold.

The consolidated company will have about 60 active volunteer members.

The consolidation has been in the works for more than 20 years, said Tim Sapienza, vice president of the merger committee.

Forum at LaRoche College will address race issues

McCandless - The Pittsburgh North People for Peace and the North Hills Anti-Racism Coalition will co-sponsor a forum called Race in Our Communities from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Kearns Spirituality Center, 9000 Babcock Blvd.

Sonya Toler, public information officer for the Pittsburgh police, will talk about issues affected by race in interpersonal relations, police/community relations, schools, community, and suburban and urban areas. …
