College of Pharmacy Student Is Fatally Shot from Passing Car

A St. Louis College of Pharmacy student was fatally shot during a backyard party at a south St. Louis house early Saturday.

Nicholas Kapusniak, 20, of Waukesha, Wis., was shot shortly before 1 a.m. in the 2700 block of Accomac Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Kapusniak was standing with a group of friends in the backyard when someone in a light-colored sedan traveling east in the south alley fired gunshots.

Kapusniak was hit in the left side of his back. He was carried inside the residence, where he was pronounced dead.

"For some reason we don't know right now, a car drove down the alley and started firing into this group," St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said Saturday.

Neighbors have complained in the past about noise coming from the house, but nothing points to an argument that could have escalated, Dotson said.

"There was no direct one-on-one confrontation that provoked this," he said.

No one was at the home Saturday afternoon. …
