ALTON > Man dies in single-car crash * Kenneth A. Johnson, 28, of Alton, died after his SUV hit a traffic signal pole early Saturday, authorities said.

Johnson of the 800 block of Oakwood Avenue, was westbound on Homer Adams Parkway about 2:20 a.m. in a 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer at high speed, according to officials. His vehicle went out of control and struck a traffic signal pole at Homer Adams and Seminary Road.

The vehicle then overturned. Johnson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt trauma to his head. Two other people in the vehicle, who were wearing seat belts, sustained minor injuries.

ST. LOUIS > Shooting victim is identified * Police on Saturday identified Demarco Bastain, 21, as the man found shot to death near his home in the 4900 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue on Friday night.

Bastain was found about 9:45 p.m., in the Kingsway East neighborhood just east of Sherman Park. He was found shot multiple times in his head and upper body, police said. …
