Recipe Exchange: Two Recipes for Sweet Treats

Article excerpt

Last month, Frederick Lee Castleman of Meridian, Idaho, requested a yellowish cheesecake he enjoyed years ago from a Jewish bakery in University City. "It was rectangular in shape, very flat and had nutmeg sprinkled on top. I would love to find a similar recipe," he wrote.

Marilyn Hoeferlin of Florissant sent us a recipe with similar ingredients.

Phyllis Mitchell of Webster Groves is looking for a recipe called Vanilla Kipples. They were much like wedding cookies made with ground pecans and whiskey. The cookie was made in a horseshoe shape.

Karen Moody of Cedar Hill sent in a recipe handed down by her grandmother years ago, though she calls them Vanilla Kiffles. "We looked forward to going to her house every Christmas to help her make them," says Moody. This recipe doesn't include whiskey.

* I'm searching for an orange cake recipe that tastes like real oranges. Years ago, Duncan Hines had a good orange cake mix, but I can't find it. I've tried to make an orange cake from scratch and even tried altering cake mixes. None has panned out to taste like real oranges. Jeanne-Marie Conley, Ballwin

* Does anyone have the chicken salad recipe from Dillard's department store? Kim Hilscher, St. Louis

* Does anyone have the slaw recipe or a similar recipe from Dohack's Restaurant? The restaurant was located in South County Center years ago. Linda Grzyb, Webster Groves
