ST. LOUIS > Man shot by officer is charged * A man who was shot by police after pulling a gun on officers Wednesday night has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, authorities said.

Tyre Boyce, 18, of the 6700 block of Vermont Avenue, was charged Thursday. He is being held in the St. Louis City jail in lieu of $30,000 cash-only bail.

He was shot by police after officers who responded to a call of suspicious persons involved in drug sales from a blue Dodge Neon in the 6700 block of Vermont, authorities said. Police approached the car, and a passenger hastily exited the vehicle and ran while holding a firearm.

Police said the man, later identified as Boyce, then turned toward the officers and pointed the firearm at them. One officer, 46, a 20-year veteran on the force, drew his weapon and fired gunshots at Boyce, striking him in the leg.

Boyce continued to run while armed and entered a home in the 6700 block of Vermont, police said. He came out unarmed and was arrested. He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his thigh.

The Dodge Neon, which left the scene during the confrontation, was found empty later.

Officers were not injured. As a matter of department policy, the officer who fired gunshots has been placed on administrative leave.

MADISON COUNTY > Man admits driving drunk in fatal crash * Jacob Fickle, of Godfrey, faces up to 14 years in prison after admitting he was driving drunk when his sport utility vehicle hit a house, killing a widower inside.

Fickle pleaded guilty Wednesday in Madison County to a felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death.

Prosecutors dropped four other counts, along with 10 unrelated felony theft charges.

Investigators say Fickle, 26, caused a disturbance in January 2013 at a home in Godfrey and fled in a relative's GMC Yukon after authorities were called.

The SUV then crashed into Marlin Bushnell's home, fatally pinning Bushnell, 73, under the wreckage. Fickle then ran from the scene before being arrested a short time later outside a tavern.

ST. LOUIS > One killed, one wounded in shooting * A man was fatally shot Wednesday in the 1300 block of Walton Avenue in the Fountain Park neighborhood, police said.

Clint Ware, 29, of the 5300 block of Maffitt Avenue, was killed in the shooting about 1:45 p.m. Police said they responded to a call and found Ware lying in an alley, unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Authorities also found a woman inside a home suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. She was also taken to a hospital.

Both victims, along with three other people who were unharmed, were walking south on Walton when they were struck by gunfire.
