SEC Notes: Pinkel Hopes DGB Makes Most of Latest Chance

HOOVER, Ala. * Other than quarterback Maty Mauk, the most discussed Missouri player Wednesday at Southeastern Conference media days no longer plays for the Tigers. Wide receiver Dorial Green- Beckham, kicked off the team in April, transferred to Oklahoma earlier this month.

Pinkel said he talked to Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops about a month ago to discuss his former player but declined to elaborate on their conversation. Pinkel dismissed Green-Beckham after he was targeted in a felony burglary investigation, his third run-in with police during his college career.

"I want things to work well for Dorial," Pinkel said. "That's important to me. And hopefully they will. (Oklahoma) is a good place. Hopefully he learns some lessons. Overall he's a good kid. He's got a chance to turn this whole thing into a very positive thing personally."

Pinkel said he's not involved in Green-Beckham's attempt to earn a waiver from the NCAA so he can play this season. Asked if Green- Beckham should have to sit out this year after transferring, Pinkel said, "That's the NCAA's choice. That's what they do. I don't do that."

Missouri athletics director Mike Alden said Mizzou is required to provide the NCAA with information about Green-Beckham's time at MU as part of the appeals process, but MU's compliance department hadn't completed those steps as of Wednesday.

Mauk has kept in touch with Green-Beckham since he left, but he and his teammates have clearly moved on from the spring's stunning development.

"We're best friends," the quarterback said. "We came in together. We have a lot of respect for each other. He made mistakes and now he's getting another opportunity. I wish him the best of luck and he's going to do big things for (Oklahoma)."

Said center Evan Boehm: "I respect Dorial. He made a couple mistakes, but we can't worry about that. …
