Ride-Sharing App Uber to Give Away Free Ice Cream in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS * St. Louisans can't order a ride from ride-sharing app Uber, but on Friday they can order ice cream.

Anyone in the city can open the Uber mobile app on Friday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and order free ice cream. If an Uber ice cream truck is nearby, the treats will be dropped off within minutes, Uber said. (This is subject to availability.)

St. Louis is one of 140 cities that will be part of the promotion orchestrated to showcase the need for various transportation options. St. Louis, however, is one of the only cities where the ice cream will be free.

"While Uber currently does not operate in St. Louis ... that doesn't mean we would deny residents of STL a fun and easy way to get free ice cream brought to them at the tap of an app," said Uber's Lauren Altmin.

Uber will have a special event at St. Louis Children's Hospital on Friday morning, where it will also deliver ice cream. …
