Schuchards to rehab Manchester Avenue building * Artists and spouses Pat and Carol Schuchard plan to convert a one-time Lion's Club dance hall into an event center, offices, conference space and storefront.

The 87-year-old building at 7150 Manchester Avenuealmost directly on the St. Louis-Maplewood boundaryhas 12,000 square feet of space. The property the Schuchards bought for $370,000 comes with a 150- car parking lot.

Hilliker Corp., which brokered the deal with former owner 1688 LLC, said the Schuchards will give the building a $250,000 renovation and reopen the space next January.

Pat Schuchard is a retired professor at Washington University. This January, the Schuchards paid $170,000 for the St. Louis Artists' Guild building at 812 Union Boulevard. They are rehabbing the century-old building and plan to reopen it this fall as a gallery, event center and a theater called the Boo Cat Club. (08.21)

McGowans buy property near SLU * Developer Tim McGowan and his wife, Julie, are the new owners of three century-old houses on Forest Park Avenue.

McGowan says they might rehab the currently vacant dwellings for students at nearby St. Louis University or consider the property for some other use. The houses, at 3816-20 Forest Park, are close to SLU, an apartment building going up across the street, next to a retail center planned by Pace Properties andoh, yeaha half block from the Ikea store under construction at Forest Park and Vandeventer avenues.

Hilliker Corp. had marketed the houses for $499,000. McGowan declined to say how much he and his wife paid for them.

Formerly owned by ACY Realty of St. Louis, the McGowan houses also are near the Spring Street Lofts, which McGowan Brothers Development opened about four years ago. McGowan said that the lofts are fully occupied. …
