Snow on the way for Midwest

A storm gathering steam over the southern Rockies is expected to dump more than a foot of snow on parts of the Midwest, New York and New England, which is still recovering from a walloping it received just a few days ago. The storm was forecast to move into the Midwest on Saturday night and last through Monday morning. It's expected to dump a significant amount of snow from Nebraska to Maine, National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro said. It's also forecast to be unusually slow-moving, meaning accumulations of between 10 to 14 inches of snow are possible for parts of northern Illinois, Indiana and northwestern Ohio. Similar amounts of snow are expected for the Northeast on Monday.

NASA weather satellite is launched * Amid growing concern about global weather patterns, a rocket roared into space Saturday carrying a NASA satellite that will give scientists new tools to forecast weather, track drought and monitor climate change. The liftoff from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Southern California was the third attempt to launch the craft.

Man held in suitcase murder case * San Francisco police have arrested a man in connection with a suitcase found on a downtown street stuffed with dismembered human remains. Mark Andrus, 59, was booked into county jail early Saturday on suspicion of murder, Officer Grace Gatpandan said in a statement. Andrus was one of two people detained the previous evening after Gatpandan said police received a call on the department's anonymous tip line that a "person of interest" in the suitcase incident had been spotted.
