Today's deal was first reported in a British bridge magazine in 1926. Even then, bridge players were leading "fourth from their longest and strongest" against a no trump contract.

South won the opening heart lead with the ace and cashed the ace and king of clubs, getting the bad news there. South needed five diamond tricks to bring home his contract. How can he get them? The normal play of cashing the ace and leading toward the dummy won't work. East will show out on the first round of diamonds, making the finesse a sure thing, but West would still have a diamond stopper. …
